These photos are from my personal albums taken on a bicycling trip in May 2024. I attempted to capture the lure of these places where ancestors lived, worked, birthed and died. The landscapes were vastly altered after the mines closed. What was once described as an industrial wasteland is returning to a natural state. Earth is reclaiming the land, For me, it is a haunted place of beauty and very distant memory.
The photos are primarily of the church towns and villages where my Wills ancestors inhabited…Lelant, St Hilary, Towednack and Zennor. The first map below shows where Cornwall is located in relation to the United Kingdom.
